In the heart of Manila, amid its bustling streets, lies the Philippine Christian University (PCU), a beacon of learning and enlightenment. Within its hallowed halls, students find not just educators but mentors, and among them stand two of my most favorite professors: Dr. Vida Tagle Dones and Dr. Jeffrey Perida.
Dr. Dones and Dr. Perida embody the essence of compassion and dedication, their commitment to their students unwavering and their hearts brimming with a genuine desire to see them succeed. With their youthful exuberance and zest for life, they effortlessly bridge the gap between teacher and friend, creating an environment where learning flourishes and dreams take flight.
I give particular recognition to Dr. Vida, as she is fondly called, who was instrumental in the completion of my doctorate studies and the bachelor’s degrees of two of my three children. She simply never gave up on us until we graduated.
At PCU, the freedom to pursue one’s passions is not just encouraged but celebrated, and it is this ethos that has allowed Dr. Dones and Dr. Perida to blossom into the exceptional educators they are today. Whether it’s singing in the PCU Chorale or jetting off to distant lands to further their own or others’ studies, they seize every opportunity with an infectious enthusiasm that inspires all those around them.
But it’s not just about personal growth; it’s about giving back to the community and instilling in their students the same values of compassion and service that define their own lives. Through their tireless efforts, they empower their students to believe in themselves, to strive for excellence, and to never lose sight of their dreams.
The global perspective they bring to the classroom is as enriching as it is enlightening. Thanks to PCU’s partnerships with schools abroad, Dr. Dones and Dr. Perida have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures, broadening their horizons and deepening their understanding of the world. As global citizens, they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their students, nurturing not just intellect but empathy and understanding.
In the ever-evolving landscape of higher education, PCU stands as a testament to the power of freedom and the transformative potential of a truly student-centered approach. Dr. Dones and Dr. Perida are living proof of this philosophy, their journey from students to professors a testament to the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to dream.
Through their unwavering dedication and boundless compassion, Dr. Vida Dones and Dr. Jeffrey Perida, and I am certain there are many more, if not all, have become beacons of hope and inspiration for generations of students at Philippine Christian University. In their hands, the torch of knowledge burns bright, illuminating the path to a future filled with promise and possibility. And as they continue to nurture the minds and hearts of those entrusted to their care, their legacy will endure, shaping the lives of countless others for years to come.
Thank you so much for this insight Dr. Joji, you’re an inspiration as well. More power
