Linda Bohol, an indomitable force and a gentle soul, will forever be etched in the annals of Diyaryo Pinoy’s history as one of its pioneering stalwarts. Her legacy, far more profound than the ink that graced the pages of the newspaper, resides in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known her.
One cannot reminisce about Linda without being overwhelmed by the memories of her kindness and boundless compassion. Her aura of warmth touched the lives of her friends, leaving an indelible mark of empathy and understanding. Her family, the nucleus of her world, was always the focal point of her unwavering care. As I reflect on her life, I am reminded of the countless moments when she selflessly extended her support to her loved ones, especially her son Roland, her sister Meloi, and her nieces Lhen and Rica.
My personal connection with Linda transcends the boundaries of mere camaraderie. I owe my entire career as a columnist in Diyaryo Pinoy to her unwavering faith in my abilities. She was not just a colleague; she was a mentor, a friend, and a guiding light in my journalistic journey. As a fellow journalist, she exhibited a rare sense of responsibility, always ensuring that no one was left behind. Her dedication to our shared profession was unparalleled, and her efforts to keep me informed and involved stand testament to her commitment.
Our paths first crossed at the National Press Club for the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila’s off-campus program. Most of the members of the class were media practitioners. Over the years, our bond deepened, transforming into a friendship that went beyond the confines of the classroom. Alongside great friends like Usec Alvin Feliciano and the late Gwen Salamida, we embraced the roles of godparents to each other’s family members, to ensure that we solidify our connection further.
Among Linda’s numerous contributions to the Philippine press, her most enduring legacy lies in her efforts to infuse humanity and kindness into the sector. In an industry often plagued by competitiveness, she stood as a beacon of compassion, reminding us all of the importance of empathy and understanding.
Yet, amid her professional accomplishments, it was Linda’s unwavering love for her family that truly defined her. Her dedication to their well-being knew no bounds, and her actions spoke volumes about the depth of her affection. Through her, I learned the profound significance of cherishing family bonds and never leaving our loved ones behind.
In her passing, I find solace in the memories of her radiant smile, her comforting presence, and the enduring lessons she imparted. Linda Bohol’s legacy lives on, not only in the articles she penned but also in the lives she touched, reminding us all of the transformative power of kindness, love, and unwavering dedication to our craft and our loved ones.
