The Legacy of Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide
On October 12, 2024, the Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide (JILCW) will celebrate its 46th anniversary. Starting as a small Bible study group with just 15 students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in the 1970s, JILCW has grown into a global church that has touched millions of lives, both in the Philippines and around the world.
The church’s success comes from its strong commitment to helping others. Under the leadership of Bro. Eddie Villanueva, JILCW has done more than just provide spiritual support; it has become a key player in community programs. The church helps families in need, provides disaster relief, promotes education, and works on building strong communities. Today, JILCW operates in over 72 countries, with each location focused on the church’s core values of service and compassion.
This year’s anniversary theme, “Christ is the Answer,” is especially relevant as many people face tough challenges like poverty and personal struggles. JILCW reminds us that during hard times, faith in Christ can bring hope and strength to keep moving forward.
Many leaders, including senators, have praised JILCW for its valuable contributions to society along with its spiritual mission. Programs like the Jesus Is Lord College Foundation, Inc. and the iCare Compassion Ministries Foundation, Inc. show the church’s serious commitment to helping others.
Senator Nancy Binay remarked about how JILCW has become a spiritual home for many Filipinos and communities worldwide. Senator JV Ejercito praised Bro. Eddie Villanueva for his great leadership. Senator Win Gatchalian highlighted the church’s commitment to outreach and education, while Senator Loren Legarda spoke about JILCW’s vital role in disaster response and national development. Senators Migz Zubiri and Grace Poe also thanked JILCW for its ongoing efforts to uplift Filipino communities, both at home and abroad. Special recognition was given to Senator Joel Villanueva, the founder’s son, for living out the church’s values in his public service.
Perhaps the most touching testimony came from Senator Imee Marcos, who shared a personal story. When her father, President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., was brought back to the Philippines after years in Hawaii, no priest or church was willing to offer the last rites. In this difficult moment, Bro. Eddie Villanueva stepped in and volunteered to offer the prayers, despite having been jailed twice under the Marcos regime. When Senator Marcos’ mother, Imelda Marcos, hesitated, Bro. Eddie reminded her that forgiveness is central to their faith, saying, “Jesus Is Lord forgives as our Lord Jesus Christ did.” This act of grace and compassion left a lasting impact on their family.
As we celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Jesus Is Lord Church Worldwide, we honor its legacy of love, compassion, and service to others.
