SHFC halts monthly amortization for earthquake-affected communities

The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), an attached agency of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), has announced a moratorium on monthly amortization payments for member-beneficiaries in communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that recently struck Mindanao.

This initiative aims to provide immediate financial relief to affected families as they recover from the impact of the disaster. It is aligned with the directive of DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling in response to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s call to extend prompt assistance to communities affected by the earthquake.

The moratorium covers the period from June 8 to July 7, 2026 and subject to extension depending on the severity of damages, allowing affected member-beneficiaries to temporarily defer their monthly amortization payments without penalty. The measure will benefit communities in Davao City and General Santos City.

SHFC President and CEO Federico Laxa said the moratorium intends to help families focus on recovery and rebuilding in the aftermath of the earthquake. “In times of calamity, families should focus on their safety and rebuilding their lives—not on worrying about their monthly payments,” he said. “Through this moratorium, SHFC stands with the national government and with our communities as we get back on our feet as one nation.”

The moratorium also underscores SHFC’s commitment as “Kaagapay ng Komunidad”—a reliable partner in building safe, affordable, and resilient housing communities.
