Fugitive ex-lawmaker Zaldy Co arrested in Prague, now in Czech custody

Fugitive former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co has been arrested in Prague after illegally entering the Czech Republic, authorities confirmed.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook account, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Co was intercepted by local law enforcement after crossing the border without proper documentation.

“Nahuli na si Zaldy Co,” Marcos said. “He is now detained in Prague after crossing into the Czech Republic without proper documentation and is currently in the custody of Czech authorities.”

The arrest follows a warrant issued in November 2025 by the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division against Co for graft and malversation in connection with an allegedly anomalous road dike project in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. The anti-graft court had earlier declared him a “fugitive from justice.”

Malacañang said the Philippine government is coordinating closely with Czech authorities to ensure that proper legal procedures are observed, including arrangements for Co’s return to the country.

“We are in close coordination with the Czech government to ensure that all legal processes are followed and to arrange for his return to the Philippines at the soonest possible time,” Marcos added.

The President also assured the public that updates will be released as developments unfold. (LB)
