Magpapatayo ang pamahalaan ng humigit-kumulang 4,000 bagong silid-aralan sa buong bansa upang matugunan ang matagal nang kakulangan sa mga classroom, ayon kay Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Kasunod ito ng nilagdaang Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) sa pagitan ng Department of Education (DepEd) at mga lokal na pamahalaan (LGU) nitong Miyerkoles.

“Today, we formalized the partnership between the DepEd and the different provinces around the country and it is an effort to make sure that every Filipino student has a safe and decent classroom to learn in,” sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos sa kanyang talumpati.

Ayon sa Pangulo, ang naturang hakbang ay unang yugto pa lamang ng mas malawak na classroom-building program ng administrasyon na layong bawasan ang backlog sa mga paaralan.

“I have seen many of the struggles that our students, our teachers, and our parents face when having to send their children to school. They are studying and dreaming of a better future in poorly built facilities, cramped spaces, and sometimes no facilities at all,” pahayag ng Pangulo.

Batay sa datos ng pamahalaan, umaabot sa 145,000 silid-aralan ang kakulangan sa bansa hanggang Disyembre 2025.

“This is the gap that we must address urgently,” wika ng Pangulo, sabay-diin na naghahanap ang administrasyon ng iba’t ibang alternatibong paraan upang agad na matugunan ang nasabing agwat.

“Because we cannot wait another five or ten years to ensure that every student has a comfortable classroom,” dagdag pa niya.

Sa ilalim ng MOA, ang DepEd ang magtatakda ng mga pamantayan at maglalaan ng pondo, habang ang mga LGU naman ang mangunguna sa procurement at konstruksyon upang mapabilis ang implementasyon ng proyekto.

“For students, it means classrooms will be completed sooner. For our teachers, it translates to a safer, a more conducive environment that they can teach in. And for parents, this gives them peace of mind, knowing that their children are learning in better facilities,” ani ng Pangulo.

Suportado ang programa ng 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA), na naglaan ng higit PhP85.39 bilyon para sa Basic Education Facilities, kabilang ang unang tranche na PhP9.6 bilyon. Sa nasabing halaga, PhP4.1 bilyon ang inilaan para sa 1,200 silid-aralan na itatayo ng mga LGU, habang higit PhP5 bilyon naman ang nakalaan para sa 2,800 pre-fabricated classrooms na ipatutupad ng DepEd.
