GCash’s Fast Global Money Transfer
In May 2024, GCash, in collaboration with the Senate of the Philippines, conducted a cybersecurity workshop for Senate employees. This initiative is part of GCash’s ongoing mission to create a safer and more inclusive digital space for Filipinos.
Held at the Senate Building in Pasay City, the workshop saw participation from Senate officials, employees, and media representatives. Leaders from GCash shared invaluable insights on cybersecurity best practices and unveiled a series of innovative products and security measures designed to protect users in the digital age.
One of the most significant updates from GCash is the enhanced ability for users abroad to send money back to the Philippines. Remitting funds from abroad usually involves numerous challenges and inconveniences. I recall an incident where a friend in the United States sent me money, which I had to claim from a Western Union outlet. Upon arrival at SM Mall of Asia, I found that the foreign exchange counter was already closed. When I went back to SM MOA the following day, I had to contact my friend in a different time zone to provide the sender’s address to the teller.
The introduction of GCash’s international remittance feature has revolutionized this process. When my sister in New York recently sent me money through GCash, I received it instantly. Friends from abroad who have tried this service on my recommendation have been equally impressed by the speed and convenience of remitting money to the Philippines.
Despite these advancements, I did encounter a minor issue with GCash. In April this year, I attempted to register another SIM card with GCash (users can register up to five SIM cards). During the GCash 101 Workshop on May 21, I discussed this with Gilda Maquilan, the Vice President for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. I informed Gilda that, despite several follow-ups, my account had not been verified after more than a month, although verification should be completed within seven days. Gilda kindly provided her calling card after I shared my application details and ticket number.
Unfortunately, my subsequent text to Gilda went unanswered, likely due to her busy schedule. Now, three months later, my SIM card remains unverified. I remain hopeful that I can resolve this issue soon.
